This is a Hummingbird Moth (Clearwing Moth) feeding on nectar from a Butterfly Bush Plant. Hummingbird Moths beat their wings at a rate of 2,400 beats per minute and they can hover similarly to hummingbirds, but they are moths. The one in the picture is actually beating its wings so I used a 1/2000 speed to freeze the motion of the wings. Picture was taken with a Sony A1ii and a 300 2.8 lens with a 1.4x teleconverter. Other settings are f/4 420mm ISO3200. I took the picture in the shade to capture the soft light as the Moth hovered around the flowers. I found the bokeh created by the surroundings of the flowers to be very interesting, as of a different world. The Hummingbird Moth is also a very interesting critter and is often confused with an actual hummingbird at first sight.
