This image was taken in 2024 with my Nikon z8 and Nikkor z 85mm f/1.2 wide open. I had just purchased this lens and wanted to experiment with it. It was shot on the beach in Connecticut right before sunset.

I think this is a better image than the other one. This one includes more of the out of focus background, better framing the subject.
I agree, I like this one much more than the other. The hair is a bit of a distraction and I would've personally edited it out since the rest of her hair isn't blowing in the wind, but the lighting is very nice.
Can anyone explain the appeal of a F/1.2 lens when the DOF is so shallow that you can't even keep both eyes in focus unless they're on virtually the same focal plane? I can appreciate blurring the background in order to eliminate background distractions. But as is the case with Daniele's other picture, what's the point of retaining focus on just one eyeball out of a whole photo? Wouldn't that photo be much improved if at least both eyes and lips were sharply focused, and a more gradual drop-off in focus making the whole portrait appear a bit more natural?
You take a few steps back and it increases the plane of focus and crop if you have to. It also helps in low light.
Thanks everyone for your the constructive criticism. I personally don't mind parts of the face being out of focus. Looking back at second image I agree hair is definitely a distraction.
