Ruminating in the River Valley

500 mm · f/7.1 · 1/2000 sec · ISO 1000

In the heat of mid morning we saw this Blue Wildebeest (Gnu) ruminating (chewing cud) in the Nossop River Valley of the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park in the Northern Cape in South Africa.

I have always found it extremely difficult to take a photo of a Wildebeest that adequately show the eye(s) as they have such long eyelashes an it almost completely obscures the eye. It does not help that they have prominent preorbital glands located below the eyes that detracts from the eyes.
