We arrived at Bow Lake at 1:30 AM in the morning the day after the New Moon hoping to capture the Milky Way. This part of the park is a really dark sky (Bortle 1) with almost zero light pollution, except for one small area in the southeast. But alas, our plan was thwarted.
There was an incredible display of the aurora borealis, so much so that due to the bright aurora we could not even see the Milky Way with the naked eye. The aurora was everywhere we looked, north, south, east and west. We spent the next 2.5 hours photographing the aurora.
