Fight to the Death

Male hippopotamuses are extremely territorial and engage in vicious, often fatal, battles to secure prime water spots, breeding rights, and dominance. Using 50cm long canine tusks, they bite, ram, and fight for hours to oust rivals and protect their herd's territory.

We watched on photographed these two male hippos for about 3 hours as they fought for territorial dominance at a small pond/dam in the Kruger National Park.
