Watch Out - Mamma's Coming

840 mm · f/5.6 · 1/2000 · ISO 1600

We spotted this mother and her twin cubs east of Churchill, MB. They were moving west towards the edge of town along the shores of Hudson Bay.

We got ahead of all the wildlife spotting vehicles and positioned ourselves further down the beach close to a headland.

This photo is taken as she crested the edge of the beach through the grasses.

Thanks Marius.
Was not easy as the new conservation rules in Churchill (and rightfully so) is that one cannot be less than 100 m from a polar bear. Long lenses and extenders is now the norm for reasonable photos.

100m gap is not much when you need to stand up turn around, and run with winter boots and a parka :) and cam gear

Fantastic capture! One minor issue is the single vertical twig splitting the frame and drawing attention away from bear head. Should not be difficult to remove.

Wojciech,
Thank you. I really appreciate the feedback. Always looking for ways to improve.

Awesome Deon!
Congratulation on selection of PotD !
