Maroon Bells

A bit of drama in the skies at the Maroon Bells. I was stopping through for a day and was hoping for a great sunset because hey, that's what landscape photographers like, right? Anyway, I was fortunate enough to be unlucky and was able to shoot the edges of the first snow storm of the season instead. Much better than a stinky old sunset.

In post I clearly added a bunch of contrast, some selective coloring for the aspens, and a unique sharpening technique. This technique utilizes the usual high pass, then run that through a noise removal software so that only edges are enhanced, not any noise or unnecessary detail. Lastly, I prefer to use vivid light blend mode to really darken the edges and details in the mountain.

Anyway, this is a stunning spot for photography but can become insanely crowded during the warmer months. This shot was taken last year late in the season and we did not have to deal with too many other people there. Read: Go during inclement weather. Better photos, fewer people.
