Two topis sparring at sunset in the Maasai Mara, Kenya. We'd stopped for a sundowner when I spotted these two in the distance, mock-fighting in the tall grass. Even with a 400mm f/2.8 and the built-in teleconverter engaged (so 560mm), they were still small in the frame, so I edged farther out from the safari group with a monopod, aware of the tall grass and trying not to think about what else might be lurking in it. I fired a few short bursts and checked focus in the field, before making my way back to the group. This was my favorite shot from the bursts: one topi's eye tack sharp, the rest of the scene falling gently out of focus. This one was at f/8, shot on a Nikon Z8.
