This picture was taken in Singapore during a traditional Chinese Opera performance at a temple. The artists get themselves ready in a cramped, make-shift, space just behind the stage where they don their costumes and their make-up by themselves.
This shot was taken from behind the subject and over her shoulders as she checked her make-up one final time in an old-fashioned hand mirror. The idea was to look at the scene from “the subject’s eyes” and to show how she was focused on getting the perfect look, moments before taking on the stage. A shallow depth of field was used to draw the viewers attention solely to the artists reflection in mirror and to blur out all other surrounding noise.
