On our second day in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park in the Northern Cape in South Africa we spotted this sub-adult (3 to 4 years old) male lion.
He was recently kicked out of the pride as he challenged the dominant male, one can still see the healing scars around his right eye from that encounter.
He was originally crouched low in the grass, barely visible. But on the other side of the gravel road were a few wildebeest. While observing him he gently moved forward and at this point was completely transfixed stalking the wildebeest. He was not successful and gave up partway through the chase.
