Photographed this Willow Ptarmigan in the Wildlife Management Area east of Churchill, MB.
We got out of the vehicle walked onto the tundra and laid down to watch and photograph a flock of Willow Ptarmigans. Our guide stood close armed with a shotgun, keeping an eye out for polar bears.
After a while we were surrounded by a flock of almost 100 birds, some coming as close as 4'. An incredible experience being part of the flock.
