Head On with a P-38

The Lockheed P-38 Lightning is an American single-seat, twin-engined fighter aircraft that was used during World War II. Developed for the United States Army Air Corps by the Lockheed Corporation, the P-38 incorporated a distinctive twin-boom design with a central nacelle containing the cockpit and armament.

This P-38 Lightning Tangerine was originally a P-38L model (S/N 44-27083), it was converted to an F-5G photo reconnaissance aircraft before being sold for civilian use after the war. After being acquired by Jack Erickson in 1990, it was restored and began flying again in 1997.

This aircraft is maybe the most difficult I have ever photographed. Lowering shutter speed to adequately capture propeller blur often makes the aircraft less sharp. Maybe 2% of all my photos were sharp enough to my liking.
