Piercing Eyes - Yes, I'm Looking at You

The area surrounding Beiseker, AB is renowned for the Snowy Owls that overwinter there. My wife and I did a Snowy Owl Prowl (looking for snowy's) this week. These owls live in the very high arctic in the summer, so we only get to see them for a few short months.

Due to lots of fog over the preceding few days (supercooled water droplets) rime ice formed on many surfaces. The ice can be seen on the small diameter pipe in the photo.

This is one raptor that I have been chasing for some time. Have yet to have success and this image is just making me want it more. Beautiful shot

Thank you Patrick. For years I searched for them with little to no success, but through the camera club discovered an area in our province where there seems to be a few each winter.

The one day my wife and I went out we saw (not photographed all) seven (7) owls in 3.5 hours. Two days later we saw five (5) owls in 4.5 hours. Traditionally if you put the time in you see 1 per hour, but there are also days you see nothing.
