Instagram Rolls Out Repost Feature, Sort Of

Instagram is reported to have started rolling out a new feature in its mobile app that allows users to reshare posts — albeit to Stories, not Feeds. A small number of users have seen the arrival of the new option and TechCrunch has received confirmation from Instagram that resharing is being live tested.

How Blind People 'See' Colors

As photographers, we spend hours on fixing colors on our images every month. Some people might even spend hours on just one image before they will be satisfied with how the colors look (me included). This is why seeing this video, of someone who NEVER saw colors, is so interesting. Tommy Edison is blind since birth, and have never seen any color in his life. Something I cant even process. Not knowing what color is. Its too crazy for me to even imagine.

Brooks Reynolds' New Short Film "Footsteps"

You might remember Brooks Reynolds, we have featured him and his amazing photography on here before. Recently I had a chance to catch up with Brooks and discuss his latest project, Footsteps, a short film based on a story he was introduced to via the internet.

Introducing ROV by Rhino Camera Gear, a Motorized Camera Slider for iPhone

Creating video content is becoming more readily available as the quality of our smartphones are constantly getting better. The number of people creating their own videos with iPhones is increasing. There are 200 times more iPhones being used over SLR cameras, but the market for camera sliders designed for iPhones isn’t quite there yet. Rhino Camera Gear plans to change that by introducing the ROV.

Canon's Mixed Reality Project Shows What The Future Of Design And Production Looks Like

Canon's Mixed Reality (MR) Project may shape the future in many areas, from the conception of an idea to design and all the way to production. It helps to generate a virtual interactive product even before production begins. This video illustrates how fusing the world between the real world and virtual world may be advantageous in many ways . How do you think it will impact photography? Check out the full post for more details.

How I Got The Shot: A Spontaneous Misadventure

Personal projects often take a lot of planning and persistence to pull off. They are passion driven assignments which is a big part of why they are so important to evolve as a photographer. However, sometimes opportunity and timing don't line up so you have to make the best of a poor situation. This is when experience and determination make or break an idea.

How to Shoot Video of Your Kids Like the Viral Hockey Dad

You’ve probably seen the viral video of the toddler whose father mic’ed him up during hockey practice, where he discovered that his son was thinking mostly about naps and McDonald’s. If you wanted to find out what’s on your kid’s mind instead of sports, here are tips to accomplish what Hockey Dad did.

Go Behind The Scenes With The Mill On The Set Of 'Doctor Who'

If you're a fan of the immortal and time-traveling Doctor Who, then this VFX breakdown might just be for you. The Mill, who works on the visual effects of BBC's Doctor Who, have been with the show since its re-imagining in 2005. Basketball Never Stops: Filming A Nike Commercial With Only One Light

If you were approached by a big client and asked to only shoot with one light, would you freak out or would you make the most of the situation? In Nike's latest basketball commercial Basketball Never Stops, they only used one single hard light to tell the story how the game and fans go on even after the court lights turn off. I think videos like this are a great reminder that sometimes less is more. Sometimes a simple setup can still produce dramatic results (even if you have you substitute a helicopter for a lightstand). Check out the video below and click the full post to see a short Behind The Scenes video on the making of this latest Nike Ad.

Alex Prager Was Born In the Wrong Decade

I have to admit, I really enjoy the bands, artists, photographers and other creative professionals I discover watching Carson Daly's show Last Call. One such artist is Los Angeles based photographer Alex Prager. If I had to describe her work, it would be very editorial in nature with a lot of retro clothing, fashion wigs, and classic Americana references. What I find most inspiring about her work is that she holds nothing back when creating the bright and simple world found in her photographs. Almost every one of her images looks as if it was actually created in 1967 whether it be the hair style, the makeup, the clothing, the cultural references, or even the lighting and film grain. What's even more remarkable is her humble story on how she became a photographer with no formal training at all. If you enjoy this interview from MOMA then click the full post to watch more candid video of Alex talking about her work.
Last Day Dream, A Man's Life Flashes Before His Eyes

Check out Chris milk's interpretation of what a man's life flashes before his eyes looks like in Last Day Dream. Filmed in a 1st person POV, this intriguing video did a wonderful job of high lighting someones life and showing it in under a minute. I've always been fascinated by POV videos and this video has a such a awesome story line. This video shows that you don't always need a expensive equipment to create such a inspiring and unique video, but that creativity can go a long way. Chris filmed all of this with a Canon 5D mk ii and Lensbaby lenses.

Fstoppers Reviews the SunwayFoto GH-02 Gimbal Head

I recently decided to upgrade to a nicer gimbal head for my tripod. However, I wasn't quite fond of the $500+ options available on the market. I'm sure they are nice, but I couldn't justify the extra cost because my current gimbal did almost everything I needed.

All Hope Is Not Lost for Accidentally Deleted Photos

Ever since I bumped into the limits of my memory card at a wedding when I forgot to format it, I’ve been extra cautious about making sure I format before every shoot, which has served me well, except when it didn’t this past week, and I wiped out my children's first trip to Adventureland by accident.

Apple and Facebook Wars: Good or Bad for Photography?

A few social media platforms, especially those owned by Mark Zuckerberg, monopolize the sharing of images online. Those platforms do have controversies, and Apple’s changes to how Facebook handles data is starting to shake up that dominance. But will it be a good thing for photography? Furthermore, should we consider doing something else with our images instead of posting to social media?

Be it power outages at home or on-location shoots, having a solar power generator is a necessity in the modern digital workspace.
