A brutal squall had just chased us off the Axolotl Lakes near Ennis Montana, where my son and I had been float tube fly fishing for grayling. As one storm passed and another gathered, a brief wedge of light from the setting sun broke through the clouds and illuminated the valley, creating this wonderful double rainbow. Shielding my camera from the wind and rain, I was only able to capture two quick images before the sky closed in and the scene disappeared behind a cloak of gloom.
Many times you cannot predict the light, and at these magical moments, you just have to be ready, camera in hand. I love the simplicity of this image. How much more drama could one possibly pack into the scene?
