Storm Clouds, Craters of the Moon, Idaho

Craters of the Moon is a National Monument in Southern Idaho. I was driving to Montana from my home in New Mexico to teach a week long workshop in Condon for the Photographers Formulary - Good People! I had set up my itinerary to visit this place, though it was about 60 miles out of the way. This is a lava field and it is huge. What I remember most about it is that it was hot as hades with the direct sun radiating off the black lava stone, and billions of almost microscopic bitey bugs that got in everything. I finally got my composition set up with my head under the dark cloth establishing focus - with no bugs under the cloth - when some yahoos drove by and honked their horn... ya ya, like that's never been done before! A storm was brewing, as you can see from the clouds and with it some refreshing rain. I used a Toyo 45A camera with a Schneider 47XL lens and a dark red filter, Kodak T-Max 100 film. BTW, filters cannot be attached to the front of that lens since it is so wide angle that you'll catch the rim of the filter on the edges of the image, so the back has to be removed from the camera and the filter placed on the rear element of the lens.
