Moonrise, Giant Supercell, Eastern New Mexico

We had been having thunderstorms - the kind that shake your walls and make the dogs hide under the bed - which moved off our area toward Texas. I jumped in my Bronco and headed to the woods to see if I could get something interesting. I was in New Mexico, right on the eastern border with Texas when this thing blew up right in front of me. And when I say it "blew up" that is literally what happened. The storm we had experienced had largely dissipated and it went from a fairly placid sky to this monster in a period of about ten minutes. It did set down tornadoes across North Texas and on into Oklahoma. The sun was setting and a full moon, or nearly a full moon, was rising on the backside of the storm. Fortunately there was no damaging hail to dent up my Bronco.
