Brother Makes A Stop Motion Ad

TV commercials are a big business these days. As the production budgets grow, the creativity grows as well. Check out all of the work that went into this new Brother Printers ad. I tried to find the full commercial but I couldn't. If you happen to find it please post it in the comments below.

About FS Forum And Our Monthly Contest

As many of you know our forum has been acting a bit unusual lately. We finally figured out that we had a couple of things go wrong. Our server with Godaddy.com actually failed and we lost a full months worth of database info. That means that all posts and accounts created in the last 30 days were lost. Right after that, our forum was infected with a virus (I didn't even know this was possible) and we had more issues with that. Long story short; we finally have everything fixed but a few of you will need to create accounts all over again. If you posted a picture for our September contest, that was also lost and you will need to repost that image. As you know, the winner of that contest gets to have a banner advertising their site on the top of Fstoppers.com and to sweeten the pot even more Photoflex has offered to give a LiteDome XS kit away to the winner as well. Please post your "motion" themed images here. I apologize for all of the issues. Fstoppers.com has been growing at a rapid pace which is a good thing but we are having growing pains.
StillMotion Shows Us How To Shoot A Wedding Ceremony

Now before you decide that you aren't interested in wedding videography let me say that StillMotion's work is unlike anything you have ever seen before. If you are a fan of flim and story telling then you will be blown away by what this team is capable of creating out of totally candid moments. Watch the informative video below and click on the full post to see their last 2 wedding trailers.

Jay P Morgan Shoots 50's Style

I just got off the phone with Jay P Morgan, a big production photographer out of California. Jay shoots usually entail big concepts and bigger set designs but in this video he keeps it relatively simple. Check out Jay's lighting scheme for this 50's style shoot.

BTSV Contest Winner: Paddy Fernandez

I am happy to say that our contest is finally over and Paddy Fernandez has won by a landslide (93 votes, Sans was second with 51). As promised, Paddy will get to choose between a Nikon D300s or a Canon 7D. With this camera we hope that Paddy will continue to create BTSVs for us and now they will be in beautiful HD. I know that the voting for this contest has not gone as smoothly as we all would have wanted but we can say that there was no cheating involved and we jumped the gun when we paused the contest. In the future we will probably have some sort of celebrity judge panel for our big contests to keep issues like this from happening. Please congratulate Paddy and give us ideas for the next contest in the comment box below. Also, don't forget about our monthly photography contest.

Learn To Retouch In NYC October 2-3

I'm not usually too big on photography seminars but this one is just too good to pass up. On October 2nd and 3rd Natalia Taffarel the famous retoucher is sharing her secrets for only $400. I will be flying up to NYC just to learn from her and it would be cool to see some other Fstoppers readers there as well. Check out the details here.
Skateboards + Fire = LAKAIROMANIA

I just stumbled upon this amazing skateboard video moments ago. As I was watching it I thought, "man I wish I could put this on FS but I'm sure there isn't any BTS". I was pleasantly surprised to find that the second half of the video is all BTS footage. Enjoy!

Chase Jarvis Shoots Womens PGA (A While Ago)

What does a guy have to do to find a high quality, informative BTSV around here? Apparently I have to start looking at videos that were released years ago. Here is a quick BTS Chase made over 2 years ago. We haven't ever posted it but if you have seen it, don't get mad at us; good BTSVs are hard to come by these days. ><
Tom Guilmette Plays With The Phantom HD

We have all heard about and seen footage from the Phantom camera. This thing can shoot amazing slomo at 1050fps at 1080p. I, however, have never actually seen the camera itself before. Tom takes us through a quick tutorial, because we will probably never get to touch one ourselves. Is anyone else shocked by the terrible navigation on this camera? For the price you would think they could add a D-pad and LCD.

Danny Cooke Shoots Blurry Video... On Purpose

Sometimes videos don't require a BTS because although they are a unique idea, they don't necessarily have to be complicated. Danny writes "Everyone has experienced fireworks. It is truly a magical sight. I set out to capture them, not as we know them normally, but in a way that many of you may not have seen them before. For this, I used Bokeh, which originates from the Japanese word "boke", which means "blur" or "haze"."

August Contest Winner: Ken Brown

I am proud to announce our first monthly contest winner is Ken Brown. The theme for the photography contest was "technology" and Ken delivered a gorgeous shot of a Lotus sports car. As promised, Ken now has his own banner on the top of our website and he gets to choose the winner of the September contest. The next theme is "motion". Please submit your pictures by posting them here.
Contest Update

Ok guys, here is the deal. We did some poking around and I am happy to say that it doesn't appear that anyone has been cheating. Multiple contestants got many of their friends and family members to sign up and vote for them and although that wasn't our ideal plan, it is totally fair and within our rules. So, we were about to start the voting again but one of our top contestants asked us to postpone it a little longer because he is leaving the country this week. I am trying to be as fair as I can to everyone here. Perhaps it was a bad idea to pause the voting but we are doing the best we can. We knew that if there was cheating and we let the contest end it would have been much worse.
James Cameron Shows Off His New Toy

I was one of the few people on the planet that actually wasn't a huge fan of Avatar but I did love the special effects. James and his team had to create new technology to produce the most successful movie of all time. Check out his camera setup below. Game Trailers - E3 2011 - Gadget Pr0n
Amazing Green Screen CGI From John Adams

I am a huge fan of the technology behind movie special effects. Here is a quick look behind the scenes of the movie John Adams. It's amazing what is possible these days. <
3 Days Left For The Monthly Contest

Just a friendly reminder that you have 3 days left to enter our monthly photography contest. Submit your "technology" pictures by posting them here. We just got back into the states yesterday and we should have the BTS contest for the camera figured out and running again on Tuesday.
Leibovitz Shoots Sean Connery For Louis Vuitton

Annie Leibovitz is perhaps the most well known photographer in the world and her work always stands out from the crowded world of photography. While her Louis Vuitton campaign with Sean Connery is a few years old now, there is still a lot of great information to be gained from the beach shoot. Using nothing more than a Photek Softlighter, Annie balances her ambient light well with her soft broad lighting to create a really awesome series of images. ><
How To Shoot Splash Photography

Here is a very simple but totally informative video about splash photography. I cannot figure out who this photographer is, if you happen to know please post it in the comments below. <
Martin Roberts Builds A Crane

Martin needed a light weight camera crane that could fit in a backpack, setup in under two minutes, and hold a DSLR. This sounds too good to be true right? Well it was, so I built one by hand.

The Contest Voting Has Been Paused

There has been some shady activity on our forum. Patrick and I are about to head out of the country for 5 days and we will not have internet. We have decided to pause the contest voting so that we can research IPs of the voters on the contest. More info soon.

Paddy, Keith, Sans, and Sean. Please send us an email at contactfstoppers@gmail.com. I would like to start a discussion with all of you.
