Let's Grab Lunch In NYC: Update

This weekend I shot Travis Harris' wedding in Vermont and now I am back in my second home, NYC. In case you didn't know, Oct 28th-30th is the PhotoPlus Expo and I plan to be there all three days. If you are looking for a group to go with, we would love to have you join ours. Until then, I thought it would be fun to meet some new people around the city. I am completely free on October 20,21,22,25, 26, and 27 and I would like to join YOU for lunch. If you are interested, simply send me a note on Facebook with the day, time, and location where you would like to meet and I will show up (Manhattan and Brooklyn only). I don't care what you do for a living, or what you want to chat about, I'm really up for anything. Also, if we get a big enough group interested I will be happy to throw another FS get-together one night. Let me know if you would be interested in that in the comments below. Update: So far I have been booked for lunch every day except for Tuesday the 26th and Wednesday the 27th. If you are free for lunch either of those days let's meet up! Update 2 All of my free days have been booked up and I am now double booking days. If you can do a really late lunch let me know. Otherwise let's meet up at the expo.
J.G. Pasterjak Teaches Us How To Make A Slider

If you like building stuff then you may want to view the video below. If you are like me, and you would rather just buy something that works perfectly out of the box, then I would highly suggest buying the IndiSlider. Its only $99 and it works great!

Diana Deaver Shoots In An Empty Church

To help raise money for the AIDs foundation, Diana Deaver did a photoshoot in a nearby church that was being renovated. Diana set up the shoot, did the models hair, made the models dress, and shot all the pictures with nothing more than some natural light and a little on camera fill. If that isn't enough to inspire you, I don't know what is. ><
Transformers 3 Behind The Scenes

Let's get one thing straight; I hate Transformers. I actually thought Transformers 2 was so bad that I walked out on the movie and since my friend actually wanted to continue watching it (and he had the car) I walked home 3 miles in the middle of the night... That's a true story. That being said, I can always appreciate a quality production and Michael Bay never fails with that. Check out this home made BTSV of Transformers 3 in the making. Fast forward to 2:15 for the good stuff. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0MqGHJSZ3rk<
A 3 Year Time Lapse

Here's a little video that needs no behind the scenes. All you need to do is find a cool subject and take multiple pictures a day for 3 years. My favorite part is that this whole thing was shot on a Pentax ;)

How To Choose And Direct A Model

Here is a great video created by Yuri Arcurs dealing with stock/commercial photography. He makes a great point when he says that a model may be very beautiful but if they don't look nice and approachable then they won't sell. Check out his quick video to learn a few other fantastic tips about directing your model as well. >https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XV20gD3t_hQ<
R.L. Morris Weddings: A Quick Interview

For those of you that don't know, I am a wedding photographer. I have been a wedding photographer for about 6 years now and believe it or not, I actually like it. Wedding photography has given me so much freedom in my life and has allowed me to start new projects like Fstoppers.com. Patrick and I are going to begin creating behind the scenes videos that pertain to wedding photography in the near future and we plan to cover everything from starting a business from scratch to delivering the final product. I didn't create the video below for Fstoppers; I actually created it for potential clients that may not have the opportunity to meet me in person before booking me. I realized that I only get a chance to meet about 50% of my clients before the day of their wedding. That's the downside with booking weddings outside of the state. I hope that you enjoy taking a closer look at what my life is currently like. More wedding videos will be posted soon.

Dentsu London Makes Paint Dance With Sound Waves

Remember Dentsu London? They were the guys that did the iPad video that we posted a few days ago. Well they just released their new project and I am blown away. These guys were hired by Canon to create a commercial for their Pixma printers. They decided to shoot splashing ink in ultra slomo.

Robert Hernandez Shoots Fire Up Close

Robert Hernandez created this video just for all of you FS readers out there. Robert's shoot isn't really that complicated from a photography stand point but I sure wouldn't call it easy. Robert is shooting images inside rooms purposely caught on fire for fire department training. The room reaches over 200 degrees while Robert attempts to get the shot and protect his gear.

Fstoppers Monthly Photography Contest

The September contest just wrapped up and I am happy to say that Shaadi Faris won. It will be shocking to many of you that Shaadi is not a professional photographer and does not have a website but he still won this contest with over 150 submissions. As promised, Shaadi now has a banner on the top of FS and he won a small LiteDome kit from Photoflex. Shaadi chose to make the theme for the October contest "sport" and he will be choosing the winner at the end of the month. Photoflex decided to raise the bar and give a Octodome NXT Kit to the winner this month! Head on over to the forum here to submit your image for this months contest. I'm am actually really envious that I can't compete in this contest; I want that bank!
StudioShare.org: Why Did This Take Me So Long To Find?

In my experience there are 2 types of photographers. 1, you have a studio but you don't shoot in it as much as you wish you could or 2, you don't have a studio but you always wish that you did. I personally am the type 1 photographer. I do have a small studio but it does not get used very often. I have just been turned on to StudioShare.org and this site may be a huge help to everyone. If your studio space sits empty as much as mine, you might be interested in turning it into cash. StudioShare.org allows you to rent both gear and studio space to other professional photographers. If you are a photographer without a studio and don't have thousands of dollars a day in your budget, StudioShare.org may help you get that studio that you have always wanted at an incredibly low price. You can also list the services you offer and get hired for gigs--everything from makeup artists to assistants. So anyway, I contacted StudioShare and they agreed to give FS readers a full year for free, just type in "fstoppers-free" when you sign up into the coupon section. You can't beat that!
StillMotion Shows Us How to Stabilize Video

StillMotion is back again and this time they are showing us different stabilization options. Personally I am a huge fan of the Steadicam Merlin but it's not cheap.

Bill Frakes And Joe McNally iPad Interview

FS reader Teymur Madjderey just sent us this interesting video. Bill Frakes and Joe McNally stand up for an iPad interview. Strange yes, but worth watching.

2 Days Left To Enter Our Monthly Contest

This is just a friendly reminder that the winner for our monthly contest will be chosen in 2 days. If you haven't entered yet, you can submit your pictures with the theme of "motion" here. This months winner will get to have their website/image on our banner on the top of Fstoppers.com and Photoflex will be giving the winner a LiteDome Kit for your on camera flash.
California Sunbounce: Expensive But Worth It

Nobody ever said that California Sunbounce makes cheap gear, in fact, you may hear people complain that their products are over priced. I can say from experience though that their products are extremely well made and if you like having the best, their products may be for you. Check out their promo video below and click here to see their full product line up. >https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CUgX7VcYfjk<
How To Light Glass

Lighting products can be extremely tricky. Especially if that product happens to be reflective. Check out this video from LearnMyShot.com and see how they choose to light 7 wine bottles. The video itself isn't a large production but there is a boat load of good info to be learned. >https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NicM0o87dPE<
Andreas Yannelos Destroys A Guitar To Get The Shot

Andreas Yannelos just threw his new video up on our forum and I thought it deserved a little time on our front page. Enjoy a quick look at his last photoshoot and then head over to his site and try to figure out Swedish. ><
Jay P. Morgan Brings The Outdoors Inside

Jay P. Morgan sent me this quick video tutorial he created a few weeks ago and I just remembered to post it. It actually works out well because Jay just let me know that he is doing a Photo/Video Seminar in Universal Studios back lot. If you happen to be California around November 6th I highly suggest checking it out. Check out the full post to see a second video promo for this upcoming seminar.

Smallest Stop Motion Video Ever

Nokia chose to do something pretty cool for their newest commercial. They decided to create the smallest stop motion video and record the entire thing with their new phone. Check out the BTS below and the finished product in the full post. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XTbzSiwbRfg<
