Sunrise at Ambewela

Ambewela is one of the most unique landscape photography locations in Sri Lanka. The combination of the open landscape, rolling hills, cool atmosphere, and wind turbines creates a scene that feels quite different from many other parts of the country.

But photographing Ambewela beautifully depends greatly on time and light. The same landscape can look completely different depending on when you arrive and how the morning light falls across the hills.

For this photograph, I wanted to capture the landscape during the early morning, when the soft sunrise light begins to reveal the shapes and layers of the surrounding countryside.

For me, Ambewela is a place where the landscape is always there, but the right light is what creates the photograph.
