"Not every famous photograph was taken with a Leica. But they were all taken thanks to Leica."

The German camera brand on Wednesday unveiled this incredible new ad from Brazilian agency F/Nazca Saatchi & Saatchi celebrating the 100th anniversary of the first Leica camera and the opening of Leica Gallery São Paulo in November. The message is conveys is powerful, but is not exactly a humble one.

Censorship is Good for Photography. Seriously.

Censorship is Good for Photography. Seriously.

If there is one medium that has been subject to the most censorship in society for well over a century, it's photography. Further, if there is one medium that has been responsible for the most heated debates about censorship, it's photography. For the most part, photographers decry and loathe censorship, whether it's because they capture nude figures, or create images with fictionalized depictions of violence, or perhaps - arguably the most important - they capture vital, photojournalistic visuals of the world around us which, let's face it, it's sometimes just plain scary. But consider this: Mainstream censorshop is not only necessary in photography, but it helps photography overall. No, really.

The Victoria's Secret Catalog: Then and Now

The Victoria's Secret Catalog: Then and Now

For many, it's a coffee table staple to browse and shop with, or simply to gawk at. To several photographers I know, it is eagerly awaiting the latest Victoria's Secret catalog so they can scour the images for inspiration. If you ask most glamour or boudoir focused photographers what they cite the most as their image making inspiration, the Victoria's Secret catalog comes up just as often Playboy, the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue, and even Sue Bryce. And for good reason; it is generally very well done, and tasteful.

Are you having a hard time deciding between the Canon 6D and T5i for your next camera? Well, you may want to keep looking for a real comparison review. In this video, a man that goes by the name Frank Lasagna compares these camera’s low light capabilities, frames-per-second, and most importantly: how well they capture his neighbor’s wife’s skin.

Photographer Brigette Bloom draws from her start in documentary photography to create mystical, story-driven work. A concept photographer, Bloom works with Impossible Project Polaroid and 35mm film, which she often alters to create interesting effects (you may recognize her as “the photographer who pees on her film.”) I spoke with Bloom about her captivating “Kaya” series, and her overall process as an artist.

How Lightfarm Brasil Made the Spectacular 3D Model/Photo Composite "Harmful Nature"

A small amount of nudity has made this NSFW, but it's really pretty minor and totally worth making a profile to view it, I promise. If not, you can go straight to the Vimeo video here. The last time we featured Lightfarm Brasil's work, most of you were just as stunned by it as me (and I was floored). Today they sent me their latest project and I'm just as awed by this one as the last. It is called "Harmful Nature" and again masterfully combines 3D renderings with photography to produce an oustanding final product.

Oh, and did I mention there's a BTS video? No, wait. There are 13 BTS videos featuring the likes of Jamie Anderson, Michael Phelps, Venus Williams and many others.

This recent project by photographer Anastasia Pottinger aims to document the deterioration but also the resulting beauty of the human body as it crosses the 100 year mark. Every sag, every wrinkle, and every age spot on display in all its glory. Though perhaps a little bit haunting and a reminder of what we can all look forward to the photos manage to capture the raw essence of human beauty in its later years.

Weapons of Choice is a powerful visual series that demonstrates, through painfully jaw-dropping imagery, the damage verbal abuse has on a person. I found myself saddened yet amazed while looking through the photos. Richard Johnson takes the power of a photo to a whole new level by eloquently illustrating the invisible and eternal scars victims of emotional, sexual and verbal abuse endure.

Provocative 'Los Intocables' Series Calls Attention to Horrors Faced by Children (NSFW)

Artist Erik Ravelo’s controversial series “Los Intocables” (The Untouchables) aims to “preserve and defend the right to a childhood” in a world that often threatens the safety and innocence of its most vulnerable citizens. Featuring photographs of children posed as if crucified on the backs of surgeons, priests, soldiers and others, the series forces its viewers to confront unspeakable hardship facing many children.
