Canon EF 300mm f/2.8L IS USM

The Canon EF 300mm f/2.8L IS USM is Canon’s professional 300mm prime lens for sports and headshot photographers. If you absolutely need f/2.8 at 300mm, this is the lens for you, but if you shoot mostly in daylight, you might want to gravitate towards the f/4 model. This lens has been replaced by an updated version the Mk. II.

Canon 5D Mk II

Canon EF 300mm f/4L IS USM

Who It’s For:

The Canon 300mm f/4L IS USM is a fantastically sharp lens that is for the photographer who needs 300mm, but doesn’t need the f/2.8 aperture. So, if you shoot sports or headshots and don’t need the extra low light abilities of the f/2.8, this is the lens for you. It’s also quite a lot cheaper.

Canon Powershot G1 X

Who It’s For:

The Canon Powershot G1 X is for the person who wants some of the power and functionality of a DSLR with all of the benefits of having a super compact camera. Canon has stated that this is for photographers who own a big DSLR but still want a functional camera to carry around all the time.

The Canon 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM is a professional telephoto lens and one of the three lenses that any professional photographer with a Canon camera will own (Along with the 16-35mm and 24-70mm). It’s expensive, but it’s tack sharp and built like a tank and ready for years of heavy use. 

What We Like:

Sharpness: This is one of the sharpest 70-200mm lenses we’ve seen.

Canon EF 200mm f/2L IS USM

Who It’s For:

The 200mm f/2L IS USM is for sports and portrait photographers who absolutely need to be shooting in low light conditions such as an indoor volleyball court. This is a very specialized lens for very specialized use, but it’s incredible so if you think you need it and you can shell out for it, this is an incredible piece of glass.

EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM

Who It’s For:

The Canon 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM is a professional telephoto lens and one of the three lenses that any professional photographer with a Canon camera will own (Along with the 16-35mm and 24-70mm). This lens has been updated by the IS II model, but this is still a great lens and can be a bit of a bargain.

What We Like:

Sharpness: This is one of the sharpest 70-200mm lenses we’ve seen.

EF 100mm f/2 USM

Who It’s For:

This lens is for photographers who need a medium telephoto lens with a very wide aperature for indoor sports. This is also an exceptional portrait lens.

What We Like:

Weight: This lens is very light at only 1 pound.

Build Quality: This lens feels very solid

Who It’s For:

This is a professional grade, super wide angle lens that is used for very special purposes. This is not a “Get it all in” lens, this is a shove your viewers nose in it lens that 90% of the time isn’t necessary, but when it is, this lens excels at it. This lens is significantly better than the earlier model the EF 14mm f/2.8L USM.

Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM

Who It’s For:

This lens is a brilliant macro and portrait lens. So, if you need an excellent medium range telephoto for portraits and want the added flexibility of being able to focus incredibly close, this is a great lens for you.

What We Like:

Macro Capabilities: It’s a macro lens so this lens will focus very closely.

EF 8-15mm f/4L Fisheye USM

What We Like

This is a special use, super wide angle fisheye lens for full frame Canon cameras and is unlike the 14mm f/2.8L where straight lines stay straight. This is not a “Get it all in” lens, this is a shove your viewers nose in it lens that 90% of the time isn’t necessary, but when it is, this lens excels at it.

Canon EF 135mm f/2.8 with Softfocus

Who It’s For:

This lens is a beautiful portrait lens, but it’s something of a special purpose lens as it has the ability to produce a soft focus effect while still remaining technically sharp.

What We Like:

Softfocus Feature: This will appeal to some and be a little strange to others, but if you want to make photos with a sort of dreamy glow without having to do any post processing, this is definitely the lens for you.

EF 135mm f/2L USM

Who It’s For:

This lens is great for portraits as well as indoor sports.

What We Like: 

Very Wide Aperature: At F/2, this lens will be brilliant for low light photography as well as headshots.

USM Focus: Focus is fast and very quiet

Sharpness: This lens is incredibly sharp and a beautiful portrait lens

EF 400mm f/2.8L IS USM

Who It’s For:

This lens is Canon’s top of the line professional super telephoto lens for sports, and nature photographers. Pair it with a fast Canon DSLR and you’ve got yourself a mean combo. This lens has been updated by the MK II version. But, if you don’t need the extra features of the newer model, you can definitely pick one of these up for a little cheaper than the new ones.

The Canon EOS-1D X is Canon’s latest professional grade DSLR. This camera was designed for the working professional who demands the most out of their gear. It’s tough, fast and if you need it, and you know who you are, you’ll already have one on order.

What We Like:

LCD Screen: The EOS 1D X’s 1-million-dot 3.2 LCD is absolutely beautiful

CF Card Slots: Two CF Card slots

Speedlight 580EX II

Who It’s For:

This is Canon’s top of the line professional Speedlight which is for anyone who needs a ( comparably) light weight, powerful flash. It’s a little big on top of a camera, but it’s definitely worth the extra heft because this is a very versatile flash.

What We Like:

Faster Recycle Time: Compared to the older model, the 580EX, the 580EX II has a slightly faster recycle time.

Canon EF 400mm f/4 DO IS USM

Who It’s For:

This is a smaller lighter 400mm lens from Canon that has a hand holdable design, much unlike it’s massive brother the 400mm f/2.8 IS II. It’s a more affordable 400mm lens than the 2.8, in fact, it’s half the price, but it’s still a staggering $6000 so you can prepare to pull our your wallet’s. It’s a beautiful sports and wildlife lens.

Canon 60D

Who It's For:

The Canon EOS 60D is Canon's upper entry level camera, similar to the NIkon D5100. This camera if for amateur photographs who want a wider array of features than the Rebel but do not want to make the jump to a full frame camera.

What We Like:

Low Light Performance: The 60D has very managble noise for a 1.6x crop.

Solid Build Quality: Despite its plastic frame, the camera still feels solid.

Speedlight 580EX

Who It’s For:

This is Canon’s top of the line professional Speedlight which is for anyone who needs a (comparably) light weight, powerful flash. It’s a little big on top of a camera, but it’s definitely worth the extra heft because this is a very versatile flash. This particular flash has been replaced by the newer 580EX II, but this flash is still useful and can be found for a lot less than the newer model.

Canon EF 400mm f/5.6L USM

Who It’s For:

This lens is Canon’s budget super telephoto lens at the 400mm for sports, and nature photographers. Pair it with a fast Canon DSLR and you’ve got yourself a mean combo if you have plenty of light. This lens lacks the fast aperture of the f/4 DO and the f/2.8L, but it’s less expensive and has the professional build quality of all L lenses. It’s also one tenth the price of the f/2.8.

Canon EOS Rebel T3i

Who It's For:

The Canon EOS Rebel T3i is Canon's entry level HD DSLR. This camera was designed for amateur photographers who are looking to make the jump from a point and shoot to DSLR's. It's low price also makes it a viable option for professionals looking for a back up camera or second shooters camera.

What We Like:

Vari-Angle LCD: Makes shooting in tight spaces or awkward angles much easier.

Who It’s For: 

This is Canon’s second best professional Speedlight, which is for anyone who needs a (comparably) light weight, powerful flash. It’s a little big on top of a camera, but it’s definitely worth the extra heft because this is a very versatile flash. This particular flash has been replaced by the newer 430EX II, but this flash is still useful and can be found for a lot less than the newer model.

Canon EF 15mm f/2.8 Fisheye

Who It’s For:

This is a very special purpose lens. It’s a fisheye, so straight lines don’t stay straight, if you really want to shove the viewers face in an image, this is very cool, but as I said, it’s a special purpose lens for very specific applications. It can be a fun lens if used properly.

What We Like:

Price: This is a fairly inexpensive lens which means you can pick up a very fun lens for very little money.
