Welcome to the Wednesday Rundown. We recieved a couple of videos from some fstoppers out there, thanks to Yves and the video sent in! This week I was on a mission to find some Polaroid film in NYC. It has recently been put back in production by the Impossible Project. I found their SOHO store and talked with them for a bit. They hooked me up with some film and I am back shooting old school. In honor I have found a behind the scenes shoot with some Polaroid film. Check it out!!! contactfstoppers@gmail.com
With new technology being invented seemingly every day with the power to upend our profession, it’s easy to become despondent about the future of our art form. Luckily, there is one fundamental advantage we hold which cannot be engineered out of existence.
We are almost 48 hours from the latest Critique the Community photo contest. The theme for this month's contest is "Unique Lighting" and the prizes include several new products from the lighting company Profoto.
The frenetic final months of the year tempt photographers with screaming deals on cameras, lenses, software, supports, accessories, and more. However, the most tempting bargains also invite increased perils around online fraud, box damage, counterfeit risks, and problematic used gear. As eager shoppers hungry for savings paired with prudent consumers, here is how to diligently navigate both established retailers along with secondary marketplaces to avoid financial headaches and make well-informed purchases.
Can photography change the world? Iranian artist and journalist Farnaz Damnabi's new exhibit, "UNVEILED," set to open at 29 ARTS IN PROGRESS, would seem to suggest yes, at least in part. I don't think it's a surprise to anyone that shifts in power structures can be turbulent. Even minor revisions in social identities can lead to conflict. Damnabi's exhibit is a document of the transformations in the identity, visibility, and recognition of women as equal and free participants in Iran, an unveiling of a new Iran, if you will.
Have you ever thought about Facebook as a 3D experience? Engadget reports that at the mostly-annual F8 conference, which showcases what the social media giant has in store for the future, announcers introduced a new way users will be able to capture their images in 3D and also experience past images in a virtual reality setting.
Today, I’d like to recount a fun story about how the past is never really the past. It is only a prologue.
Starting January 15, a new regulation, the Social Media Parental Notification Act, will be implemented across Ohio, requiring young social media users under the age of 16 to obtain consent from their parents or legal guardians before using these platforms.
Hello this is Jerrit Pruyn from Fstoppers with.... you guessed it, another Wednesday Rundown. While Patrick and Lee are out in Colorado filming another Fstoppers Original, I figured I'd feature some of the best videos sent in by our readers. This week we have a little salsa dancing going on and even some muscle cars burning out. Big thanks to the people at Wonderful Machine and the videos they rounded up online. Keep sending in your video links to contactfstoppers@gmail.com and maybe next week you will find yourself on Fstoppers! Drop me some comments if you like what you see and remember to tell your friends to start filming all their photoshoots so I can post them.

Jumping back to an article I just wrote on how to speed up your career by 10 years, We Eat Together suggested “finding your passion and photographing the hell out of it.” That is what exactly New Zealand-based photographer Charles Brooks did in his recent photo series, Architecture in Music.

In the ever-expanding landscape of social media, where voices echo and opinions clash, trolls have become an unfortunate reality. These internet provocateurs thrive on negative attention, seeking to disrupt, demean, and derail meaningful discussions. However, instead of getting caught in their web of negativity, there are compelling reasons why ignoring social media trolls is not only wise but also empowering. In this article, let's explore why rising above the noise and refusing to engage with trolls can lead to a healthier, more positive online experience.
Trolls Feed on...With the holidays upon us, many photographers (including myself) will want to break out all their gear. In years past I have always planned on what cameras and lens combos to bring, lights, possible modifiers, batteries, and everything in between to photograph Christmas. This year I took on a new approach. An iPhone and a cheap stand set in the corner in time-lapse mode would be the only media I walked away with this year.
If you're an iPhone or iPod Touch user, you'll be happy to hear that Flickr has updated their app with some great new functionality. With a built-in editor, instant sharing on multiple social platforms, and a slick exploration interface, they're making a great mobile Flickr experience. And while Flickr's past iPhone and iPod Touch apps might have left you wanting more, I think this is one worth checking out.

Apple has introduced the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus, showcasing several new features powered by the A18 chip and Apple Intelligence. Both models offer improved camera capabilities, extended battery life, and a more durable design. With upgrades to the camera system, Apple is focusing on enhancing both everyday photography and professional-level capabilities, while also integrating Apple Intelligence to streamline user tasks and improve privacy.
Starting a freelance career might be one of the most stressful things a human can do to themselves. I am exaggerating, but you get my point. Naturally, your first instinct might be to start chasing every client possible and get as many jobs as possible. Here is why you should stop doing this and focus on something else.
Motion Array has been hard at work adding new features recently. For example, they recently came out with a video portfolio site builder. With this feature, any paid subscriber can create a custom site to show their video work, complete with text, images, and contact information (all editable). Users can even use their own custom domain or have one supplied by Motion Array. But now, Motion Array is at it again with Requests. Essentially, any paid member of the Motion Array community can put in a request for any type of creative asset that Motion Array offers.
Recently, we've seen a lot of AI used in image creation, but so far, we haven't seen it as strongly applied to image editing instead of widespread image creation.
On May 28th - June 1st Fstoppers is hosting our first ever photography workshop in the Bahamas at Atlantis Resort. We signed a contract with the resort which guaranteed our attendees the cheapest possible hotel rates. After fees, the cheapest room at the resort is usually over $450. The attendees of our workshop pay less than $200/room and they can be shared at no extra cost. Sadly there is a catch.
