2.77 - "Solid"

This was taken from north of Fredericksburg, Texas during the eclipse in 2024. The week before we had been watching closely the weather, and many had already changed their plans. But we did not, we were determined to still go to Texas, it had appeared that the weather was going to be better in Uvalde...so the Wife and I made a second booking in Uvalde. Turned out that the day before the trip, the weather turned to the worse in that direction, and we were able to cancel that without cost. Then all the 'Eclipse-Chasers' at our San Antonio hotel... were trying to find the clearest path. Our original booking north of Fredericksburg turned out to be ok... mostly clear. Up to just past Totality. Then our show was over. People to the West and South of us saw less.... People to the East of us saw a little more. Then there was my setup... I was preparing to shoot the 'Sun' many times in the year prior with my Canon camera. I had bought this Gear-Ring that fit around my 'Focus-Ring' of my Tamron G2 so that it was easier to micro-focus. I even made a youtube video about it. Because it's not just a matter of setting to 'Infinite' and expecting that it will be perfect... it's slightly different when out past 600mm. However for the above picture: I was supposed to be shooting at 840mm with an extender, but at the moment of totality, somehow, I didn't realize I was not at full-mag. Thankfully I was still in focus. I was actually hooked up to my larger Tablet sitting in the back of my Prius, so I could watch what my Camera was seeing, and keep it in focus.

During Totality I was exposure bracketing all over the map at different shutter-speeds. But in the end, this is a single shot. I wasn't able to combine shots to produce some of the effects that I wanted. I have a half-shot of baily's beads, but not as good a focus. Also the weather was not always cooperating.

Shot with my Tamron G2 150-600mm. The whole group that had booked this place, kept coming over to watch the event at the back of my car.
