Autumn brings a blaze of color to the bald cypress trees of Caddo Lake and the Big Cypress Bayou in Texas. This was my first photo kayaking adventure into the untamed realm of cypress swamps. I launched my kayak and set out in the darkness of the early morning where it is eerily quite, foggy, and glowing eyes looking at you from shore or the water you can't tell it's so dark. After paddeling a couple of miles through a maze I settled into a cove and waited for the sun to rise. By then the wind had picked up so it was very challenging keeping the kayak faced in the right direction while handholding my camera. There were so many moving parts; the water, my kayak, the wind blowing the spanish moss. My goal was to capture the light through the moss while freezing it's movement all while handholding my camera. My camera settings were totally different compared to what I usually set my camera at on land. It was a great learning experience and I cam away with some beautiful photos. Shot with my Nikon Z7ii Mirrorless. 1/500 sec at f/7.1, ISO 400. 160mm (Nikkor Z 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S). Edited in Lightroom with some basic editing to shadow, highlight, blacks, and luminance. I also did a noise reduction.
