Giuliano Bekor is an amazing commercial and advertising photographer based out of Los Angeles. Recently he traveled down to Australia to produce a short editorial film for the clothing company Merchant 1948. The concept involves a set of short films based around the idea of models finding a ton of cash and avoiding the police by flying away in vintage airplanes. As ridiculous as that sounds, Giuliano's execution makes for a really entertaining editorial spread.

For the yet unreleased October 'survival' issue of Backpacker magazine, adventure photographer, Bud Force, decided instead of having a model dangling perilously off of a cliff that he would do a creative composite. He shot the background at 'El Capitan' peak in Guadalupe Moutains National Park and the subject at Mineral Wells State Park.
I have always been intrigued with light painting. I have taken a few stabs at it, yet it never comes out as good as this. Earlier today news broke out about Nokia and their Lumia 920 simulation video not being exactly forthright. The video before the shameful reveal had no indication that it wasn't filmed with the actual product that it was marketing. When reddit.com users got their hands on the video they quickly noticed that the reflection in the video is not of a person filming with a mobile phone on a bicycle, but of a man in a van with what looks to be at least a DSLR sized camera with what seems to be some type of Gyro-stabilization system.

In my opinion, one of the most difficult fields of photography falls on the shoulders of interior photographers. If you've ever tried to photograph a well designed interior space you know how tough it can be. Furniture superstore IKEA produces more than 208 million catalogs a year, and over 12% of those photographs are not even photographs at all. IKEA has found a way to produce compelling digital renders of their rooms that look exactly like naturally lit photographs.
It's all about light painting today. German collective group, Lichtfaktor took what we normally see in photographic form and made a dreamlike video animation for the brand dENiZEN™. Taking only five nights to film, this crew spent many hours planning and rehearsing the story line and, incredibly, no post production was needed once they were done filming.
Director and designer Karmin Zariffa was hired by SpaFax and AirCanada to turn out their promo videos in celebration of AirCanada's 75th anniversary. The spots showcase air hostess uniforms and airplanes used over the years. Karmin used a lot of in camera effects and object building to pull these off and we are thankful to be able to see how he and his team did. Enjoy this BTSV. Some photos of Olympic sensation Michael Phelps have risen online that could land the swimmer in hot water. The photos by Annie Leibovitz for Louis Vuitton were leaked on the Internet late last week, violating the International Olympic Committee's controversial Rule 40, which states athletes can't promote any non-Olympic sponsors from July 18 to August 15. Phelps could stand to lose his medals.
Victoria's Secret has been in the news quite a bit for pushing Photoshop too far. Yesterday, on their Facebook page, they promoted their 'Body by Victoria' line and uploaded this image (within the article) to go along with it. Immediately, the public reacted in outrage about how they were pushing Photoshop too far and it eclipsed the discussion of the product itself. Computer generated imagery has always astounded me in how much processing it takes to get the final result. The great folks at the Mill explain how they the start by conceptualizing each character then moving on to shooting the live action scenes, and then finally blending the final animations into the scenes flawlessly.
Marketing and advertising treads a fine line. Put too little into an initiative, and the audience never engages. Go too far, and it becomes cliché and unattractive. But if you can hit that perfect balance and walk that fine line, perfection can be truly beautiful. When the guys from Golpeavisa were tasked with shooting a cover photo of two-Michelin star chef René Redzepi for Premier Class Magazine, they walked that line with unmatched poise.
